Laura Lloyd Fontaine grew up in Atlanta, Ga. In a family of very talented interior designers. She has been painting the majority of her life and her studies are extensive. She graduated from Hollins College in 1980 with a Studio Art Major. She moved to Philadelphia and continued classes at the Philadelphia of Art. At that time, Laura sold watercolors at many locations on the Main Line. In 1986, Laura’s career took a turn after attending the Finishing School in New York. She started her own company wall glazing and painting trompe loeil for interior designers around the United States. She was featured in several magazines including Southern Homes, Southern Accents, Veranda, and House Beautiful. In 1995, Laura started painting in oils on canvas. She has attended many workshops taught by various artist: Ray Vinella, Marc Chatov, Dee Dean, Ken Backhaus, Rhett Thurman, Craig Nelson, Lois Griffel, Larry Moore, Perry Austin, and Chris Groves. Since 2000, over 20 shows have been given in her honor at private homes all over the South East. She has participated in fund raisers for the Low Country Children’s Center, The Heart Ball in Charleston, The Humane Society, The Charleston Designers Show House, My Sister’s House, and Brookgreen Gardens. In 2006, Laura purchased an Epson 9700 Printer. She now prints her own giclees out of her studio and sells to stores and clients. In 2007, Laura was juried into Oil Painters of America. Now in 2009, Laura continues to paint daily in her studio located at her home on James island. She continues to work with decorators and clients and is always looking forward to her next home show.
